Clinical Research

Clinical Research provide the evaluations a new drug must pass to show that it is safe and effective for treating a disease. Results for a number of patients are analyzed to determine if the benefits of taking the drug outweigh the risks. NewLab’s premium infrastructure and expertise enable it to perform advanced clinical research of extremely high quality. To date, NewLab has completed more than 200 Clinical Research for top tier pharma and biotech companies in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Clinical Research are normally done in four phases. NewLab specializes in Phase II, III and IV trials with almost 70% of its current Clinical Research revenue coming from Phase III trials and the remainder equally split between Phase II and Phase IV trials. The acquisition of the Newfound Genomics laboratory has provided NewLab the opportunity to expand its Clinical Research service offering into pharmacogenomics trials.

Diagnostics and Genomics

NewLab’s Diagnostic and Genomics business unit operates in three key market segments:

  • Pharmacogenomics
  • Molecular Diagnostics
  • Genomics Services

NewLab has a fully certified laboratory status from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and is equipped with state of the art genetics equipment (e.g. Sequenom® MassARRAY® genotyping platform and Affymetrix® GeneChip system). Services include DNA isolation; SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms) genotyping; and diagnostic testing for life saving tests such as the sudden cardiac death gene (ARVC) and the correct dose of the blood thinning drug Warfarin.

Drug Development

The Drug Development business unit was established to commercialize therapeutic products using the genetic advantages of a founder population. NewLab has two novel therapeutics in development - next generation Peptide-T drugs for a multitude of auto-immune diseases and drugs targeting HLA Cw6, a part of the human genetic sequence thought to cause the chronic disease psoriasis. Both new therapies target immune processes common to multiple prevalent autoimmune diseases and represent billion dollar opportunities.
